Which PS5 do you have?

Sony has sold four builds of the PlayStation 5, and each one is a different shape. Every Subumi skin is cut from its own template per model, so picking the right one matters more than the design you choose. Two questions settle it.

1. Is there a disc slot?

Stand the console upright and look at the front face. A thin slot on the lower half means you have a Disc edition. A flat, unbroken face means Digital. On the Slim, the disc drive is a separate module that clips on to the side, so check whether yours is attached.

2. Is it the original or the Slim?

Put them side by side and the original is noticeably taller and wider. On its own, look at the side panels: the original has one continuous curved panel per side, while the Slim splits each side into two pieces with a visible seam across the middle. If you still are not sure, find the sticker on the back or base — the model number starts CFI-1 on the original (CFI-1000, CFI-1100, CFI-1200) and CFI-2 on the Slim.

How to apply your skin

About ten minutes, start to finish. Work slowly on the first panel and the rest goes quickly.

1. Set up. Clear a flat surface in good light. Power the console down, unplug it, and take it off its stand so you can turn it freely.
2. Clean the panels. Wipe every surface with the dry cloth until no dust or fingerprints remain. Trapped dust is what causes bubbles — this step matters more than any other.
3. Peel back a little, not all. Lift two or three centimetres of the backing from one end. Keep the rest covered so the adhesive stays clean while you line it up.
4. Line it up before it touches. Hold the exposed end over the top edge and match the cutouts to the ports and vents. Nothing sticks until you press, so take your time here.
5. Lay it down from the centre. Press the exposed strip into place, then draw the backing away underneath as you lower the rest, working outward rather than dropping it flat.
6. Squeegee the air out. Sweep from the centre to each edge with firm, overlapping strokes. Air moves toward the nearest edge, so never start at a corner.
7. Finish the edges. Press around vents, ports and curves last, where the vinyl has to stretch slightly. If a bubble remains, lift the nearest edge, let it release, and lay it down again — the adhesive tolerates repositioning.

How to remove it

Lift one corner with a fingernail, then pull the skin back on itself at a shallow angle — almost flat against the surface, not straight up. Go slowly and steadily. It comes away in one piece and leaves no residue, so the console underneath is exactly as it was. That is what makes a skin different from a sticker: you can restyle whenever you like, and the console still looks untouched when you sell it.

Looking after it

Wipe it with a dry or very slightly damp microfibre cloth. Avoid alcohol, solvents and household cleaning sprays — they dull the gloss. Keep the vents clear as you would on a bare console.
